I have been in two marriages and someone asked me, “Do you think Matt is your soul mate?” I have a lot of thoughts that surround this. How do you define soulmate- do we only have one?
So is Matt my soulmate? I believe YES! But it depends on your definition of SOULMATE. Let me explain…
I grew up thinking you have one soulmate for your time on earth. Now that I have had a chance to think really deep about it and have life experiences surrounding it, I’m not sure- my soul has been on a journey! Does that change my definition of a soulmate?
I am so happy in my marriage now and do find myself thinking, “I wish I could have been married to Matt my whole life- we just click and it feels so right. He really feeds my soul. He is my soulmate!” But could this be all my spirit ever needed? Is that what a soulmate is? Yes, maybe that would have been nice not to have to go through what I did in my life before Matt, BUT… Then I wouldn’t be the person I am today. Maybe, just maybe, my spirit needed to be somewhere else so it could be where it is today?
When I was 18 my soul needed someone to take care of, someone to help and wanted to feel needed. I was looking for that and found it in Jay and we married. He passed away 21 years later. I grew from my marriage with Jay and what I needed changed over the years. So if you think a soulmate is someone you were meant to be with, maybe I was meant to be with him to learn and grow for a certain time period? Or maybe he was my helpmate or a soul here to learn human lessons with?
At age 40 I wasn’t looking for someone to take care of or to feel needed. I believe I was attracting what I needed to fill my soul. I was looking for someone to nudge me to look deep inside and find myself, to think on my own, to find my values and beliefs, someone to push me to a higher level and be a positive influence. Matt was perfect for me. He really does raise me up! If I would have met Matt when I was younger I probably would have taken him for granted. He also was never in a place to find someone that wanted to feel needed- so our souls wouldn’t have collided. Oh, how I adore this man and his soul. He is so full of integrity, sweet and patient and we are growing in this journey together.
So here I am in a happy, healthy marriage and have learned more than I would have ever thought possible to know. What’s amazing is I grow every day. I am at peace and feel like I am in the right place. SO if you think a soulmate is someone you have incredible chemistry with and one you connect with on the deepest level, and your gut says it’s where you should be, then yes, for sure Matt is my soulmate.
Some people also suggest that other people in our lives- such as good friends could be our soul mate- there to help us along the way. So we have many soulmates along our journey?
You decide- do we just have one? I thought it was interesting to think through with a new perspective, but I guess it doesn’t matter what the answer is and everyone’s would be different. And we may never know the answer while here on earth. But it is fun to think through my beliefs. All I know is I am grateful for my soul’s journey and the souls I have met along the way.

You Raise Me Up ~ Josh Groban
When I am down, and, oh, my soul, so weary
When troubles come, and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
There is no life, no life without its hunger
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly
But then you come, and I am filled with wonder
Sometimes I think I glimpse eternity
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be
