tartar sauce recipe

We often have fish for dinner and I haven’t found a tartar sauce recipe that I love, so I found one to make myself and this one is simple and GOOD!


1 cup Mayonnaise (or substitute with sour cream, pesto, greek yogurt, or make your own – below)

2 TBSP lemon juice

3 TBSP chopped dill pickle

2 tsp chopped dill weed

1/4 tsp pepper

Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for an hour before serving.

(I never think of making it an hour ahead and it tastes great! I was out of lemon juice the other day, so I put in DoTerra lemon oil and it was so yummy!)

Homemade mayo

You can use this in any recipe that calls for mayonnaise, including salads, sandwiches, and dips.


  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • salt


  1. Whisk the lemon juice and egg yolk together.
  2. Add olive oil slowly and continue whisking until it’s in.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
