Book Review: The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto
This book touched me deeply- a complete WOW! One of my favorite books ever. This is a quick, easy read with power!
In the front cover Dr.Emoto explains what the book is about… “This book has the potential to profoundly transform your world view using high-speed photography. Dr. Maseru Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water revealed changes when specific concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. He found that water from clear springs and water that has been exposed to loving words shows brilliant complex and colorful, snowflake patterns and contrast, polluted water or water exposed to negative thoughts for incomplete asymmetrical patterns with dull colors the implications of this research, create a new awareness of how we can positively impact the Earth and our personal health.”
The Hidden Messages in Water opened my eyes to how much energy and emotion we carry—often without realizing it—and how vibration and energy ripples out into the world. Reading about how water crystals changed in response to words and emotions made me pause and really think about the energy I speak, think, and feel each day.
It made me more aware of the tone of my self-talk, the way I speak to others, and even the energy I bring into a room. I started noticing how much more peaceful everything feels when I choose compassion, kindness, or gratitude instead of frustration or judgment.
The book also talks about music and how those vibrations creates different patterns. Beethoven’s music made gorgeous crystals where heavy-metal music was playing, no crystal was formed. Hmmm what music should I listen to?
Professionally, this book connects so deeply to the work I do. In yoga and healing, we talk about energy, intention, and vibration—but this book helped me feel it on another level. Knowing that the body is mostly water makes it even more powerful to think our thoughts and emotions could be shaping us from the inside out.
In the book he has a bunch of pictures of crystals. If you are a visual learner like I am it helps so much to see the difference between something sweetly said like “thank you” vs something mean like “you fool”. Wow this is incredible!
When I finished the last page, I sat for a moment just feeling grateful—grateful for the reminder that love, kindness, and even simple words can create beauty. It’s a book that made me want to move through life with more awareness, softness, and care. I’m inspired to speak more gently, to think more lovingly and to remember that even the smallest intention can create beauty- just like the most intricate water crystal.

This is my favorite give-away book. Try it, you’ll LOVE it!
I read this book again while getting my yoga certification at Bodhi Yoga in Provo Utah.
