Have you ever wondered why sometimes you feel super energetic and motivated, while other times you feel sleepy or restless? In yoga, there’s a cool idea called Gunas that explains these feelings! Gunas are like different flavors of energy inside us that shape how we feel and act.

There are three main Gunas: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Think of them as the “moods” our mind and body can be in!

Sattva is the “happy and peaceful” Guna. When Sattva is around, you feel calm, clear, and joyful — like a sunny day! It’s a flowy and side to side motion. To invite Sattva, do relaxing yoga, breathe deep, and enjoy quiet moments.

Rajas is the “go-go-go” energy. It makes you want to move, race, and do lots of things! Rajas can be exciting, but too much makes us feel stressed or busy. To balance Rajas, try slow, gentle yoga or deep breathing to chill out.

Tamas is the “lazy” Guna. When Tamas is strong, you might feel sleepy or tired, like a cloudy day. To shake Tamas off, do some lively stretches, get outside, or dance around a little!

Knowing about Gunas helps us understand ourselves better. Want to feel more balanced? Practice yoga that suits your mood — a calm pose when you need peace, or a fun, energetic flow when you want to boost your energy! The more you explore Gunas, the more you’ll enjoy your yoga journey — and feel great inside and out!
